Brlo

Beergarden Brlo

Brlo is the old Slavonic origin of the name of Berlin, meaning marshland. The brewery of the same name was founded in Berlin in 2014.

The founders of Brlo are Katharina Kurz, Christian Laase and Michael Lembke, and their first beers were a Helles and a pale ale. By now, they brew other beer styles, from Pale Ale, German IPA, Porter and Red Light Ale to Berliner Weisse. They only use organic malts meeting the EU guidelines.

Since 2016, the brewery and affiliated restaurant Brlo Brewhouse and beer garden are to be found in a space built out of 38 shipping containers. It is located centrally in the Park am Gleisdreieck, a very special urban venue in Berlin. Not only do they brew beer, but Ben Pommer created a unique gastronomy concept focusing on vegetables with meats taking over a supporting role. For me, Brlo at Gleisdreieck is simply inconceivable without Ben’s creative cuisine. From Friday, 31 May, to Sunday, 2 June, Brlo will have a special menu offering food pairing perfectly with Berliner Weisses.

These are the beers presented at the Festival:

BRLO x Breakside present, Brut of Roses: hand-picked Oregon rose hips and hibiscus petals impart a roseate hue and floral redolence while Champagne yeast crowns off our pink love affair, lending hallmark dryness to our faux-sé. Store cold, drink fresh.

Ratebeer:

On tap at BRLO, Berlin. Comes with a hazy, pale rose color and a tiny white head. Restrained nose with faint fruity aroma. Taste is tart, fruity with nice hibiscus flavor. Dry.

Drank it on tap at Stone Brewing Berlin 2018-12. This Berliner Weisse brewed with Champagne yeast presents a full body, moderate acidity and perfect flavour harmony. Yummy stuff!
